Not only are production losses from IBK significant, but eye ulceration and subsequent pain can be substantial, and resulting blindness can affect animal behavior by increasing fear and distress responses.An important issue for both the public and animal agriculture is antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Next to BRD, and enteric disease, the third most costly bovine disease is infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK), with 50% of herds infected with 8.75% of cattle affected. Animal health and infectious disease are costly to the industry Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is estimated to directly cost producers more than $13 per animal and treatments can exceed $100 per animal.
